When to Use

  • When you want to notice what restores or uses your energy.
  • When you want to explore whether changing the timing, duration or order of an activity could help.
  • When you want to plan recovery after something that cannot be skipped.

How to Use

  1. 1
Place any people or activities you choose on the scale according to how they feel today.
  2. 2
Name any energy givers you might want more of.
  3. 3
If useful, note what might help you recover after a demand you cannot skip.
  4. 4
If useful, write one small change to timing, length or order.

The same person, place or activity can feel energising, draining or both at different times. This map records your experience today; it is not a verdict on anyone or a measure of health.

Place people and activities or places on their separate scales, leaving rows blank if you wish. Reflect on what you might want more of, how to recover after a demand you cannot skip and whether a small change is useful.

A drainer is information about you today, not a flaw in a person or activity. Energy moves with sleep, health and mood. This page is not medical advice. If tiredness is new, severe or does not lift, talk to a health professional.
